I know it sounds silly but I’m curious.
I saw some where that you should stand underneath a doorway or table. I live in a Victorian house. The walls, ceilings and floors are VERY VERY thick… But if I go outside there is a chance that my roof could fall on me.
With all these natural disasters lately it just feels like the world is coming to an end.
Chosen Answer:
Your walls are thick, but they are not built with the flexibility to withstand the massive shaking of a large earthquake.
And while in a hurricane or a heavy flood, your house will protect you better than a wooden one, a timber frame house will survive an earthquake better than yours. And you likely survive unscathed in a timber framed house, while your victorian one, and my victorian one, will likely kill us.
Best thing to do is run out of the house to a nice open bit of land. Even if this open bit of land is your garden, at least 6 metres from your house.
